ABOUT US: NOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL CANADA

. . . Showbiz, Creativity and Entertainment at its best!

Nollywood International, Canada, is the reality of a group of Nigerian movie producers and directors based in Canada. With the advent of collaboration between the Hollywood and Nollywood movie industries, the Canadian movie industry and movie-lovers have since embraced the Nigerian arts due to the number of Nigerians resident in Canada.

Nollywood is a sobriquet that originally referred to the Nigerian film industry. The origin of the term dates back to the early 2000s; the earliest documented usage of the word 'Nollywood' is from a 2002 article by Matt Steinglass in The New

York Times, where it was used to describe Nigerian cinema. It is believed to be a 'portmanteau' of the words 'Nigeria' and 'Hollywood' the major American film hub.

Nollywood International, Canada, was formed in July, 2016, shortly after the Toronto Film Festival where about 8 Nollywood movies made the list to premier in Canada.

Nigerian Cinema has grown in the last decades with Nigerian actors becoming house-hold names in Africa. This has also led to many Nigerian actors featuring in Hollywood movies, and also that of

other African nations from South Africa to Tanzania, and from Ghana to Kenya.

Nollywood International, Canada, is aimed at projecting Nollywood to the Americas, taking African-Americans back to their roots through world-class Nigerian movies while educating others on the Nigerian culture. This is a bold step in ensuring stake-holders in the cinema/film industry, especially in Africa, with particular reference to Nigeria, continue to achieve more global recognition as the achievements by Nollywood actors continue into the future.
